The CYF board has begun preparations for upcoming 2018 season and we wanted to share some club updates, as well as some process changes we are expecting to see.
The Great Lakes Youth Football League, of which CYF is a member, is the governing body for all clubs including certain aspects of our policies and procedures. The GLYFL is likely to institute a change for the 2018 season, and going forward, that will require each club to redraft all teams in all divisions each year.
The CYF draft process has been long viewed as a fair and equitable process to team development by the GLYFL, though there has been no consistency across all of the clubs in the GLYFL. While this new process is a bit of departure from our previous efforts to keep cores of teams together as players move from year 1 to year 2 in a division, over the past few years we have encountered conditions that have required us to redraft a division.
This new process will eliminate potential confusion surrounding our drafting policies for our club, and for those clubs with whom we compete in the GLYFL. Our CYF operating procedures will be updated and reposted to our website in the coming months once all new rules and conditions have been made final and delivered to the participating clubs.
In the meantime we are exploring several exciting options for fundraising and game day activities that we will share in the coming weeks and months with the membership. We will open registration for the 2018 season on 4/1/18 and will close on 6/30/18. There will be no exceptions for late registrations this year.
We would also like to welcome our 2 new members to the board; Scott Mackar has been voted in for a 2 year term as the CYF Vice President, and Bob Conroy has been voted in for a 2 year term as the CYF Treasurer. They have both been coaches in our program and we are looking forward to their support and participation in their new roles.
